about

When I began the journey towards recording Dearestly, we first had to decide on a producer for the album. It was a daunting task as the producer can really influence the sound and direction of the album and I wanted to make sure it would not only be a good working relationship, but that the songs would become even better with the right person. Because we had the funding from the Peak Performance Project we were able to do a little bit of exploration and decided to work on multiple songs with a few different producers and see how it went. It was a really positive experience with each producer and we came out the other side with some really neat versions of a few of the songs from Dearestly. In the past few months I shared the early versions of Brave Face and Oregon with you as part of the “Behind the Song” feature, and for this month’s exclusive I’m sharing three more songs from these early pre-production sessions. Each song is quite different from the final production that made it onto the album, but they each have parts that I really like and appreciate. I hope you enjoy these alternate versions!

Recorded at Lauren’s home in the Gulf Islands, it is an intimate marker of the passage of time, holding space between who she was and who she will be. With deeper honesty and a renewed effervescence, Lauren Mann is taking herself and her music back to her roots and creating authentic art. ... more
