Idyll I 01:23
We traveled through Wheat and stars Always be with you Through the pines Over the rocks Always be with you Past the rain Over the sea Always be with you Plant our roots Hand in hand Always be with you Always be with you Always be with you
2.
I’m leaving home There’s nothing left for me In this flat land town When there’s so much more to see So don’t chase me down Don’t come after me I’ve made up my mind This is how it has to be Let’s write a new beginning I need a new beginning This town is stifling I need a new beginning We had such a nice time In your small town streets Smiling at strangers And them waving back at me If I speak honestly I’ll miss you dearly But the time has come For me to be leaving Let’s write a new beginning I need a new beginning This town is stifling I need a new beginning
3.
Brave Face 04:05
Who are you supposed to be Are you slave or are you free Oooh oo ooh oooh We watch the stars to find our way But we’re afraid of what they say Oooh Set course to love Make stops on the way Frame all the finest memories Set course to love Put your heart on the line It’s too late for playing it safe So put on a brave face Tell me something I don’t know Open up your heart and soul Oooh We watch the stars to find our way Still afraid of what they say Set course to love Make stops on the way Frame all the finest memories Put your heart on the line It’s too late for playing it safe So put on a brave face Take it one step at a time Set your sights on a distant horizon You’ll make it there someday Do you even know Where you want to go Are you happy now Are you wanting more Nothing stays the same for very long Everything’s moving too fast To have a change of mind Change of mind Set course to love Make stops on the way Frame all the finest memories Set course to love Make stops on the way Frame all the finest memories Set course to love Put your heart on the line It’s too late for playing it safe So put on a brave face Take it one step at a time Set your sights on a distant horizon You’ll make it there someday x2 Ooh, ooh, ooo – o – o – o - oh Who are you supposed to be Are you slave or are you free
4.
We are all fools Fooling around for something new Something euphoric to make us feel Like we’re still alive Who are you You don’t belong here you know it’s true When they’re not around I can see right into Your charming eyes Don’t waste your time The world is a beautiful place You don’t want to go it alone The world is a beautiful place You don’t want to go it alone All the bright lights Are brighter when you are by my side Let’s see what treasures we could find In the moonlight When the world Shows itself in painted skies True colours reflected in Your perfect eyes Don’t waste your time The world is a beautiful place You don’t want to go it alone The world is a beautiful place You don’t want to go it alone See the world for what it really is People feeling all the same things you feel You’re not alone in this Everyone’s wondering How do I make this real The world is a beautiful place You don’t want to go it alone The world is a beautiful place You don’t want to go it alone x2
5.
We talk a lot about leaving To the Southern Gulf Islands But it’s just an idea On a distant horizon If I had the courage I’d say let’s get packing But I’m still a bit nervous To start over again The ocean is calling me home Someday we’ll find where we belong Remember how it felt when We crossed over the water Breathing salty air in We knew that jwe belonged here I want to see your face Looking at me in the rain And find our sense of adventure All over again The ocean is calling me home Someday we’ll find where we belong The ocean is calling me home Someday we’ll find where we belong
6.
Hibernate 04:08
Time keeps moving on At a pace we can’t escape Trapped in its rhythm Day to day to day to day Time is both friend and foe Never leaving us alone Marked by its passage It’s something that we can’t ignore So take a little time Oh, take a little time To hibernate While imagining When it all starts to look the same It’s time to hibernate Dusk comes early these days The night is full of mystery Constellations Reflect the skies of history I’ve seen it all before These sentiments are getting old I need a new perspective To make it come alive again (Time keeps moving on) So take a little time (Time keeps moving on) Take some time (Time keeps moving, time keeps moving) Take a little time (Time keeps moving on) Oh, take a little time To hibernate While imagining When it all starts to look the same It’s time to hibernate It’s time to hibernate While imagining When it all starts to look the same It’s time to hibernate It’s time to hibernate
7.
Idyll II 01:21
Dark and light And love, in time And buried treasure In your eyes Give and take And travel far We cross the water To find our love
8.
I Wanna Know 03:58
Tell me all of your secrets And give me a little time To find a bit of courage And tell you all of mine I wanna know all about you Even after all these years I wanna know I’ve only just scratched the surface Of all the treasure that’s between us We’re like fire and water Sometimes disaster strikes But if we pick up the pieces We’re stronger every time I wanna know all about you Even after all these years I wanna know I’ve only just scratched the surface Of all the treasure that’s between us I wanna know, oh I wanna know All about you Give me all of your burdens I’ll carry them for you And I’ll tell you what scares me Just promise we’ll make it through I wanna know all about you I wanna know all about you I wanna know all about you Even after all these years, I wanna know I’ve only just scratched the surface Of all the treasure that’s between us I wanna know all about you Even after all these years, I wanna know I’ve only just scratched the surface Of all the treasure that’s between us I wanna know
9.
Make Smooth 03:36
Make smooth my rough edges Turn me into something That through time and trial Will make me something special I find solace in your rhythms And repetitive motions But I feel your power And the threat of destruction If I ever get down to the bottom of this Will you help me make it back to the surface I know there’s something hidden deep under your waters And I won’t rest until I find all of your secrets You are full of contradictions And I’ve become your victim For as soon as I find comfort You sweep me under If I ever get down to the bottom of this Will you help me make it back to the surface I know there’s something hidden deep under your waters And I won’t rest until I find all of your secrets x2 One thing is sure and it’s that you know What I’m looking for Hidden truths that shine like treasures On the ocean One thing is sure and it’s that you know What I’m looking for Hidden truths that shine like treasures On the ocean floor If I ever get down to the bottom of this Will you help me make it back to the surface I know there’s something hidden deep under your waters And I won’t rest until I find all of your secrets x3

St. Lawrence 03:49
I found an island in the middle of the St. Lawrence River Where everything I knew became clearer As I walked between the land and the sea I watched the stars at night and hid in the wood in the afternoon Forgetting all the things that I had to do All I knew was what surrounded me J'ai trouvé une île au milieu du fleuve St-Laurent Où le connu est devenu transparent Comme je marchais entre terre et la mer Regardais les étoiles la nuit et me cachait le jour au sous-bois Oubliant tout ce que je devais faire Je connaissais seulement cet univers And all this time I never felt so alive And all this time I never felt so alive Et touuuut ce temps, je n’me suis jamais sentie aussi vivante Et touuuut ce temps, je n’me suis jamais sentie aussi vivante Ooo – o – oh Ooo – o – oh Ooo – o – oh Ooo – o – oh My island in the river My island in the river My island in the river And all this time I never felt so alive And all this time I never felt so alive Et touuuut ce temps, je n’me suis jamais sentie aussi vivante Et touuuut ce temps, je n’me suis jamais sentie aussi vivante
11.
Idyll III 01:49
When we get home We’ll start a fire and Talk about all That we saw and Make some plans For our new life In our home On an island When we get home From our travels Let’s be still For a little while I don’t need much Just your loving Quietly By the sea
12.
Oregon 05:06
The forest is burning to the ground The ponderosa pines are coming down, down, down The water is running dry And I don’t know why, I don’t know why Where did everybody go? Empty houses removed of all they know Memories abandoned on the floor A new life, the fear is gone Oh Oregon, sing me a sad song Oh Oregon, when it all goes wrong Oh Oregon, help me understand Why everything comes to an end Nothing will ever be the same History is something we can’t escape When it seems like the end Begin again, begin again Oh Oregon, sing me a sad song Oh Oregon, when it all goes wrong Oh Oregon, help me understand Why everything comes to an end Even the mountains, strong and silent Crumble to dust someday x2 Climb a mountain to see where you come from Follow your footsteps back to the forest You belong here, out in the wilderness Among the dust that brought you up Oh Oregon, sing me a sad song Oh Oregon, when it all goes wrong Oh Oregon, help me understand Why everything comes to an end Even the mountains, strong and silent Crumble to dust someday x2
13.
I went on a journey under the earth To see what treasures lay under the ground Darkness rose up out of the depths And slowly wrapped me in a cold embrace Somewhere along the way I felt alone Somewhere along the way I carried on I lit my lantern to see what surrounded me Stranger beauty I had never seen Shadows leapt and danced beside me Beckoning me deeper and deeper Somewhere along the way I felt alone Somewhere along the way I carried on In the darkness there is much reward Find the treasure you’ve been searching for In the darkness there is much reward In the darkness there is much reward Find the treasure you’ve been searching for In the darkness there is much reward Somewhere along the way I felt alone Somewhere along the way I carried on Somewhere along the way I felt alone Somewhere along the way I carried on Show me the way Show me the way Show me the way Show me the way
14.
You are fire, I am water We bring destruction when together I was blinded by your brightness You were drowning in my presence I’ll put you out When you’re burning down Just hold these floodwaters back And save me You are fire I am water Existing in the same space You are fire I am water When you’re weak I give you strength You are fire I am water Elements coming together You are fire I am water When we’re together it’s electric But that same force could destroy us When I’m without you I am drifting In an ocean, be my island I’ll put you out When you’re burning down Just hold these floodwaters back And save me You are fire I am water Existing in the same space You are fire I am water When you’re weak I give you strength You are fire I am water Elements coming together You are fire I am water And it came like a flood Spreading like wildfire And it consumed us both But we never let go And it came like a flood Spreading like wildfire And it consumed us both But we never let go I’ll put you out When you’re burning down
15.
Wooden Heart 03:24
Oh your wooden heart Doesn’t beat the way it used to You lost it by the seashore And it weathered into driftwood What brought you to the sea Were you looking far away Or staring at the depths Holding onto something Ooh, ooh, ooh Ooh, ooh We’ll never be Really, truly free until We let go of the world And all it holds for something more Look beyond the sky Past the waves, past the tide Someday your wooden arteries Will beat with life again Ooh, ooh, ooh Ooh, ooh, ooh Ooh, ooh, ooh, Ooh, ooh Oh, your wooden heart Your wooden heart The ocean Oh, it pulled you apart Your wooden heart Your wooden heart The ocean Oh, it pulled you apart
16.
Idyll IV 01:27
The ocean for you and I is home We’ll plant seeds and watch our loving grow

about

The past four years have been full of triumphs, sorrows, incredible experiences, many miles traveled, lots of amazing people, and an incredible musical journey. This album, Dearestly, chronicles much of that journey: the highs and lows, the love and loss, and everything in between. It’s been a labour of love, and a collaboration of many, and I’m so excited to finally share it with you. With this release, I decided to go against the grain and do a pay-what-you-feel digital download to try and get the album into as many ears as possible. Since I don’t have a lot of industry support, my fans and friends are what will help get the word out. So, if you are excited about what you hear, I would love it if you’d share the digital download link with your friends and help me spread Dearestly far and wide. Above all, I hope these songs are an inspiration to you.

Lauren.

about

Lauren Mann Pender Island, British Columbia

Memory & Desire was born out of uncertainty, and came from epiphanies of hope between the questions. Recorded at Lauren’s home in the Gulf Islands, it is an intimate marker of the passage of time, holding space between who she was and who she will be. With deeper honesty and a renewed effervescence, Lauren Mann is taking herself and her music back to her roots and creating authentic art. ... more
